Individual Therapy
Using a psychodynamic approach, I work collaboratively with my clients to develop a trusting relationship in which they feel deeply understood. This approach focuses on underlying issues of which the client may not always be conscious, that could be contributing to their current difficulties and distress. Working in the here and now, we work to link the past to the present in order to create a greater understanding of internal and interpersonal struggles. With time, understanding and working through of issues, symptoms are alleviated and emotional space is opened up, creating the potential for new healthier ways of being.
This approach works for a broad range of difficulties including:
- Depression/Anxiety and Phobias
- Trauma and its effects
- Loss through bereavement, divorce or unemployment
- Addictions
- Chronic illness and its impact
- Life transitions
- School or work difficulties
- Interpersonal issues
- A lack of meaning/feelings of emptiness or general dissatisfaction with life
Couple Therapy
In my work with couples, I meet with both partners to address difficulties in their relationship. Whether the focus is on communication, problem solving, parenting, emotional connection or sexual intimacy, we work together to understand the negative interactional patterns. By bringing to light current and past patterns of interaction and their effects, we look at ways to move forward, strengthening communication and intimacy. Both the partnership, and the two individuals involved, are granted an opportunity for growth through this process.
